What are the allowances for military personnel? 

Hawaiian Airlines baggage limits are different for military personnel. If they are traveling alone or with their spouse and children or any person depending on them, they get an extra checked bag allowance compared to other passengers. Here are all the allowances for military personnel:

  • U.S. military members are allowed to bring two checked bags, each weighing up to 50 pounds and measuring up to 62 linear inches in size. 
  • Spouse and children traveling with the same reservation are also allowed to carry two checked bags. 
  • If the military personnel are travelling due to a military order, then they are allowed to check 5 bags weighing 70lbs and size 80 linear inches.

  • They have to show their military ID to get the allowance. 
  • If they are carrying extra baggage or exceeding the weight and size limits, they must pay charges.

For some items that are hazardous, dangerous, or harmful, Hawaiian Airlines has baggage restrictions. Here is a small list of items: 

  • Any equipment that can cause combustion, or any gasoline-operated equipment, is prohibited. 
  • Camping stoves, heating devices, and containers of fuel in any condition are not permitted. 
  • Materials that are explosive, such as fireworks, have flares, or are ammunition, etc. 
  • Hoverboards, smart scooters, e-bikes, and motorized luggage are not allowed. 
  • Equipment like paint, Sterno fuel, liquid fuel, and meal heating equipment is not allowed. 
  • Lithium battery drone, only if packed safely with proper guidelines. 
  • Lithium batteries in carry bags, max two batteries of 160 Wh. 
  • Mercury-based bleach, corrosives, pepper sprays, mace, and self-defense sprays are prohibited.

Which items are permitted under special conditions? 

Hawaiian Airlines baggage dimensions and sizes are fixed by the airlines, but in some special situations, passengers are allowed to carry a bag larger in size, and some special items also. 

  1. Medical equipment and assistive devices such as wheelchairs (manual or electric), CPAP machines, walkers, and other necessary medical equipment are accepted free of charge. Ensure the equipment is FAA-certified and that batteries are disconnected. Inform the prior of bulky or complex medical equipment.
  2. Musical instruments can be accepted as checked baggage or carry-on baggage if they are within the size and weight limits. Instruments must be packaged in a hard case for protection.
  3. Surfboards, paddleboards, and kiteboards are accepted up to 115 linear inches. Must be in a protective case or bag.
  4. Antlers are permitted if they are under 120 linear inches, clean, and pack securely in a protective covering that prevents sharp points from causing injury or damage.
  5. Wind surfing equipment is accepted up to 115 linear inches and under 100 lbs. Must be securely packed with detachables removed or padded.
  6. Bicycles should be correctly packed inside a bicycle box or case. Child safety seats and strollers can be carried free of charge. One for each child journeying can be checked at the gate or ticket counter. 
  7. Scuba tanks must be empty, with the valve removed or kept open for inspection. Tanks must not hold any compressed gas.
  8. Dry ice, six pounds or two-point-five kilograms in weight, either in carry-on or checked baggage, provided it is vented and properly labeled.
  9. Firearms can only be placed in checked baggage. They must be unloaded, declared at check-in, and housed in a locked hard-sided case. Ammunition must be packed securely and preferably in a separate container.
